Back Creek's Abbegale

"Abbey"

April 30, 1990 - May 12, 2003

There are few things tougher in life than having to say good bye to a great dog.  Having just passed her 13th birthday, and with her body wracked with cancer, Abbey's body finally started to give out on her.   I had hoped that if it was her time to go that she would pass quietly in her sleep, but being the tough old bird she was, I guess she decided that I should have to be the one to end her misery.  I hope I never have to make such a heart wrenching decision again.

Abbey certainly wasn't the flashiest dog I had ever owned nor was she the greatest duck dog that I've ever been associated with, but I do know that she was as good an upland dog that I've ever had the pleasure to hunt behind.  That was her forte' and she loved every minute of it.  Her passion was pursuing mid-west roosters, which she did faithfully for many years until age (and cancer) finally forced her to retire. At the time of her death, Abbey was the matriarch of my kennel, and loved dearly by all my family.  Dogs like Abbey don't come along very often in life, and I am truly thankful that I was fortunate enough to have one during my time on this earth.

Thanks old girl for some wonderful memories.
