Buz Ryland

Buz and Scooter with two swans taken in a marsh in North Dakota
This North Dakota hunt in October 1999 turned out to be Scooter's "coming out" party. Outside of the field training she already had when I bought her, this hunt was her first real test on all types of waterfowl as well as pheasant. Having seen only marks and the very basic of handling drills, Scooter was challenged in ND with every type of retrieve imaginable; and she passed with flying colors! Even I had my doubts that this 55 lb. bundle of energy would be able to handle a bird as large as a swan. Not only did she handle them, she made a 300 yard marked retrieve across a marsh on one of the 2 birds shown above. After this hunt, I knew I had the makings of a truly outstanding dog!
