Kansas Waterfowl Hunting Photos
November '94 hunt over a small pond in Kansas with Steve Waugh. This small, 2 acre pond was loaded with up to a 1000 mallards, widgeon, and pintails. We set up on an earthen mound located in the center of the pond and had ducks literally landing on top of us. Once the shooting began we had our 3 bird limit in a very short time. I came back the next day and picked up another quick limit.

December 2000 hunt in Kansas. Wow! Did we hit it right! Perfect weather, plenty of birds, good friends, and good times. We decoyed literally hundreds of birds. Practically all our shots were less than 30 yards. Absolutely some of the finest water fowling the State has to offer! It doesn't get any better than this!
Photo No. 1: Our first day hunt on a 3 acre farm pond where roughly 2000 ducks (primarily mallards) were using the pond. Limits for all by 9:30 (notice Scooter looking at more mallards landing in the decoys!).
Photo No. 2: Goose hunt on a cut corn field. Had several groups of Canada geese, lesser Canada's, and specks work us. Picked up 4 greater Canada's and should have had a few more, but we let a few flocks work to long and they drifted on.
Photo No. 3: Duck hunt on a small river. First flock that came in had 50-60 mallards (plus one drake pintail that stayed with us!). The picture shows a mixed bag of mallards, one pintail, and four widgeon. All shots were 15 -20 yards. We also took limits at that same spot 2 more days that week!

January 4, 5, and 6, 2001 hunt in Kansas. After several weeks of bitterly cold weather in the Sunflower State, a mild break gives us 3 days of unseasonably warm weather and another fantastic hunt. From late season ring necks to giant canadas to ducks, we had it all. Many thanks to our hosts, Bill, Dave, Casey, Flip, Richard, and all the others that made it a wonderful hunting experience. Here are some of the photos:
Photo No. 1: Goose hunt on a frozen wheat field with Casey, Dave, Buz, Chad, Bill, and myself. Casey had found these geese using this field and had left them undisturbed for several days. Needless to say, at daybreak as we set up, the birds started coming off the nearby reservoir. It was pretty much a continuous flight of birds until about 9:00 when the sun (and lack of wind) caused the geese to shy away from our spread. It didn't matter since we had already collected our party's seven limits!
Photo Nos. 2 & 3: Duck hunt on a private marsh with host's Flip, Richard, and others. Incredible is the only way to describe this hunt! Upon arrival, we watched as literally thousands of ducks and geese arose off a small 3 acre marsh, which coincidentally had the only open (non-frozen) water anywhere around. For the next 2-3 hours, there was never more than a couple minutes that we didn't have ducks working or falling into the decoys! When the smoke cleared, 38 ducks (35 greenheads, 1 teal, 1 red head, 3 golden eyes) and one lone Canadian goose were bagged. A truly memorable hunt!

Photo Nos. 1 & 2: First day of my 2001 trip to Kansas (December 6th). My first morning in the field found Jeremy and I on a river covered up with mallards. Amazed, we watched literally thousands of mallards coming to us and settling down to loaf on the water. Selectively shooting, we picked up a couple of limits of greeners in no time.
Photo No. 3: (December 9th) My now giddy hunting buddy, Richard Faulkner, became a believer when he hammered these mallards just a few hours after his plane touched down in Kansas. Notice the look of amazement on his face. His comment after the hunt, "Boy, dat shore wus fun!"
Photo No. 4 & 5: (December 11th) Mallard Heaven. While walking in, Richard and I watched in amazement as 1500 - 2000 mallards arose from a small cattail marsh. We quickly set up and for the next few hours enjoyed almost constant decoying green heads, although our unusually poor shooting that day kept us out there longer than should have been necessary!
